Participation and conditions

Admission

The course is intended for students with an advanced artistic background, although with a lack of classical-technical skills.
Admission to the course is on the basis of an assessment of work already done, both quantitatively (can we speak of drive?) and qualitatively (can we speak of sufficient talent?). Applications must always be accompanied by documentation (photos) of the own work and a description of the artistic qualifications, and of course your personal details.

Selection for Basic Training
There is no entrance selection for the Basic Training. However, a reasonable level of painting skills is assumed. Registration takes place after payment of the tuition fees of € 496. No more than two groups of 18 students will be admitted. The Basic Training is designed to prepare candidates as well as possible for the entry requirements of the Klassieke Academie but cannot guarantee that applicants will be accepted.

Selection for Master Training
Every year, no more than 20 students will be admitted; admission is on the basis of the results of the entrance examination. The selection will be based on an assessment of artistic skills and talent as shown by the documentation. This may lead to an invitation to take part in the admissions procedure (a session of drawing from a model, a motivation discussion and an examination of original work as well as a homework assignment given in advance). The most promising students will be admitted first.

Assessment
Registration can occur all year up to the end of May. The applications will be examined by the admissions committee in June; the entrance examinations will be in mid June. If there are more suitable candidates than places (more than 20), then a waiting list will be drawn up - admission will then be the next year. Selection when there are too many candidates will take the order of application into account.
Applications for the next year will be accepted from 1 June.

Tuition fees
After admission, students must pay tuition fees: € 496 for the Basic Training; € 2,565 for the Master Training.
This is a private course. The annual tuition fees for the Master Training are thus € 1000 higher than in subsidized education.
Registration takes place after receipt of the course fee:
post office account number 9672271, in the name of 'Klassieke Academie',
Oude Boteringestraat 63, 9712 GE, Groningen.
IBAN: NL 44 PSTB 0009 6722 71 BIC: PSTBNL21.
If study progress justifies this, students must register anew each year.

Subsequent assessments
Registration must take place anew every year.
At the end of the first study year, a committee of lecturers from the second year will judge whether a student has made sufficient progress to be admitted to the next study year.
The same procedure will take place at the end of the second year, but then with a committee of third-year lecturers.
The assessment at the end of the third year which will decide whether the course can be continued is in the hands of an admissions committee.
At the end of the fourth year, students will be assessed by a plenary meeting of lecturers and external experts.
It has been agreed by the teachers and the board of the Foundation that no relationship may exist between the assessment of quality and the budget.
